Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engines and Electromobility is focused on R&D activities related to various innovative and alternative fuels for mobile and stationary plants to boost the use of renewable or waste derived fuels and thus to boost circular economy. Current activities are focused but not limited to: CNG; LNG; LPG; Biodiesel; Dual fuel: Diesel + LPG, Diesel + CNG; Straight vegetable oils; Syngas; Waste derived fuels, e.g. Liquefied lignocelulosic waste, TPO – Tire Pyrolysis oil, Syngas and Biogas.
Based on the fuel properties and target application we perform R&D activities on piston engines and gas turbines. We are focusing on the R&D activities of the entire chain from thermodynamic characterization over exhaust emissions to durability and demonstrator development.
